Bechtel Enka GP Breaks Ground on Kosovo Motorway
Pristina, 25 April 2010 – Thousands of people today in Kosovo celebrated the groundbreaking for the Kosovo Motorway, Route 7 which will be constructed by the Bechtel Enka Joint Venture (BEJV).
The President of Kosovo, Fatmir Sejdiu, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Hasim Thaci and the Head of the Assembly of Kosovo, Jakup Krasniqi attended the ceremony, as well as the Prime Minister of Albania, Sali Berisha and Minister of Transport of Albania, Sokol Olldashi.
The BEJV will start the construction of a 102 kilometer motorway that will serve as a centerpiece of the country’s national transportation system. The four-lane motorway will start from the border with Albania at Morine and connect at the north of Pristina, Kosovo’s capital.
The BEJV will be responsible for design management, procurement, and construction. The project will bring together international experience and local knowledge, maximizing opportunities to benefit the local economy through the use of local contractors, suppliers and employment on the project.
